Devastating floods strike Pakistan

Torrential rains during the final days of July 2010 and August have caused rivers to overflow throughout Pakistan causing severe flooding and destroying dams, roads, schools, food supplies and homes in hundreds of towns and villages. Millions of villagers have lost their homes, livelihood, and the death toll is rising. This is reportedly the deadliest such disaster to hit the region in the history of the country. Pakistan Flood Disaster, A Test of Patience and a Chance for Giving The deadliest weather related disaster of 2010 is unfolding in Pakistan, where heavy monsoon rains have triggered flooding that has left over 1500 people dead. The death toll may reach in the thousands as flooding has expanded throughout the country and countless are missing due to flash floods and landslides. On top of this, more monsoon rains and flooding are on the way according to Pakistan meteorological department. Millions of homes in thousands of villages and towns have been destroyed. It is being reported that over 13 Million people have been affected by this disaster - more than the 2004 Indonesia Tsunami, 2005 Pakistan Earthquake, and 2010 Haiti Earthquake combined. Infrastructure such as dams, power stations, roads, bridges, schools, agriculture wells, and drinking water hand pumps have been severely damaged or destroyed. |

"We urgently need the public’s help to save more lives" Appeal to raise aid for victims of the devastating floods disaster in Pakistan. United Nations have said it is the worst flooding in Pakistan for nearly a century, affecting more over 12 million people and taken 1,600 lives amidst the crisis. The UN say the tragedy in Pakistan is worse than the 2005 Asian tsunami and Haiti earthquake in terms of the number of people affected. Disasters Emergency Committee Chief Executive Brendan Gormley said, “These devastating floods have left millions fighting to survive with little food, clean water or shelter.
